Hariri: We Will Never Forgive Bin Laden

Burning Danish Embassy

The head of the caretaker government in Lebanon Saad Hariri said Monday that Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, who was reported as killed by US special forces, was "a black mark" on Islam's history, and accused him of putting the religion "in hostile situations" with other faiths and cultures.

"The damage he has done to Islam's image and Arab causes is not less than the damage done by enemies of Muslims and Arabs worldwide," he said in a statement.

"The history of our nationalism and Islam will never forgive that man who was a black mark for two decades, filling the minds of youngsters with ideas about terrorism, murder and destruction."

Hariri said bin Laden did not only harm the United States and the West. "He has spread evil and division in the Muslim and Arab worlds."

World leaders on Monday welcomed the death of bin Laden but warned that the long war against terrorism is far from over and that Al-Qaeda could strike back with renewed force.

Hariri’s “Future” and the War on the Syrian Regime: He Who Begins Is the More Oppressive

By Abdul Hussein Shbieb

Who believes Saad Hariri and his "Future Party" claiming that this Party has nothing to do with what Damascus accuses them of as regards their involvement with the security unrest occurring in some Syrian regions?

The denial might be true as well as the fact that any accusation must be linked to concrete and viable evidence. In case such evidence is provided, it must take a judiciary path through the assigned channels among Lebanon and Syria on the basis of an agreement signed by the specialized constitutional authorities. Such talk is also true, but the problem of Hariri and his party is that there is a group of evidences within the hands of the public Arabic opinion, among which the Lebanese and the Syrian opinions are. Such evidences do not support Hariri to make people believe his denial, especially when this data has been accumulated at least since the beginning of 2005 - particularly since the assassination of PM Rafik Hariri and the direct accusation charged by the "Future Party" and its political allies to Syria, which has been led by Bashar Assad; without having the slightest evidence, they accuse Syria of committing the assassination.

For five years, Saad Hariri and his team led a Lebanese party towards the edge of the abyss and to the declared confrontation with the Syrian leadership. To do so, they used whatever interdicted weapons, which had no relation at all with any struggle that can be described as rational and that is featured with the least extent of logic and horizon of thinking of such conduct's consequence. However, the "Future Party" and its leadership threw behind all of the rational statements made to them by some of their friends or rivals, and they went on a political delirium against Syria - particularly against President Bashar Assad.

They actually translated this delirium in the arena at several stages and with different shapes and tools. Nobody can deny that all of the local, regional, and international efforts beyond the Special Tribunal for Lebanon exclusively targeted Syria. Many declarations of Saad Hariri and the March-14 leaderships stated that in public festivals, press conferences and meetings, and at the backstage. Those refused the least doubt whether Syria actually committed the crime or not; they saw that Syria should be punished, and that was the philosophy that would establish the Tribunal. Those accusations inspired the Arabic and international pressures on President Assad.

Furthermore, embracing the escape process of Abdul Halim Khaddam, providing him with residence and food in Paris and other places, and covering up his media activity were only a part of that process, of which Saad Hariri was the most prominent director, along with the names that have become unknown. There's a real labor that took place with direct American direction and French and Saudi Arabian sponsorships, and it was based on a plan, whose execution was tried several times to overthrow President Bashar Assad, and which was devastated by the specialized Syrian systems.

Actually, there's a lot of talk that relates those attempts to the suicide of Ghazi Kanaan, the other companion and most prominent one of Khaddam. Still, the names of George Bush, Jacque Shirak, and Bandar Bin Sultan weren't absent from these efforts. Hereupon, it's not of help for Hariri to deny any path of this kind as he faces an American cable (documented as the 2735th) that represents a meeting proceeding, which took place on August 24, 2006, between Sheikh Saad, one of the grand staff members of the American Congress's Foreign Affairs Committee - Benet Tallwar, and a diplomatic politician working in the American Embassy of Beirut. The cable, issued by the Embassy and sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, literally says that Hariri devoted a big part of the meeting to talk about regional affairs - particularly Syria, and he said that the Syrian and Iranian regimes represented the greatest obstacles facing peace in the region.

In his opinion, the attempts of the U.S. government to «change the conduct of the Syrian regime» were worthless; in fact, changing the regime was required since «it is the perfect time - after the July War - for the international community to weaken Bashar». Hariri also saw that the U.S. government «needs a clear, new policy to isolate Syria» and that "the Saudi Arabians and the other Arabic countries have had it with the young Bashar, and they do not anymore want to use a reconciliatory approach towards the Syrian regime. Moreover, he added that after the last speech of Bashar, during which the latter had threatened of a Lebanese civil war, they were no longer interested in holding talks with Damascus and that Hariri had "directly heard this from the Saudi Arabians, and Prince Bandar is currently delivering this message to Washington D.C."

After placing, at the background of his strategic perusal, an axial aim of putting an end to the Iranian influence in the region through breaking what he called the "Syrian bridge" to Lebanon and Palestine, Hariri concludes that he should advice his American visitors, literally saying, "The Syrian regime has to be totally abolished; it has always survived upon conflicts, and these conflicts will end once the regime is abolished."

Well, once the Americans asked Hariri the logical question about the alternative that he found convenient for the post-overthrowing of Bashar, he suggested "a partnership between the Syrian Muslim Brothers and some characters that had previously been a part of the regime, as Abdul Halim Khaddam and Hekmat Shehabi." Having perfectly complimented the "Brothers in Syria", said they were similar to their Turkish counterparts, and "they even accept a Christian or a woman for the presidency of the republic; they support peace with "Israel"," he advised them to talk to the banished guide of those Brothers, Ali Albianoni - as he was doing, whereby he informed them of his strong connections with Khaddam and Albianoni. Hariri then promised his American visitors that they "are going to see wonders if you get in very good terms with him (Albianoni)" and if they depended on him to prepare for a terminating process that overthrows President Bashar Assad.

Hariri can neither deny this cable nor the other leaks of the Wikileaks Site, for his wild desire to topple the Syrian President was obvious through his direct sponsorship of the process of fabricating the false witnesses, the most prominent of whom was Muhammad Zuheir As-Siddique, who was heard on a voice record with Hariri, Hariri's security chief - Wissam Alhassan, and the head of the international investigators - Gerhard Leman. Hariri himself confirmed the record, whereby As-Siddique exclusive mission was how to create evidence that could convict Assad and his grandest assistants with the assassination crime, which was similar to the job required from the other false witnesses as Hussam Hussam and Ibrahim Jarjoura. All of these false accusations were accredited by the international investigator, Detlef Millis in his first and second reports and were celebrated by the leaders of the Future Party and March-14 forces. As a matter of fact, it had taken Millis's successors a long time before they acknowledged having faked the process and led the investigation astray.

If Hariri publicly announced his enmity of President Bashar Assad, accused him of the assassination of his father, refused any other hypothesis, asked the Americans to topple this President, pushed the international investigation committee to exclusively accuse Syria of the crime, was caught red-handed with the false witness Muhammad Zuheir As-Siddique, brought Lebanon to the edge of a war on Syria - the victims of which were tens of innocent Syrian workers in Lebanon, and was making his best bets on the July War, then how does he want the Arabic public opinion not to believe the Syrian accusations against the Future Party of involvement with the recent security incidents, especially when he did what he did, and when his media and allies didn't even stop denouncing the Syrian President as Hariri paid the climax of his visits to Damascus and ate food at President Assad's home? Besides, they're not leaving a single triviality or incident occurring today in Syria without spotlighting and enlarging it.

If Hariri relied on the presumption of Syria's military presence in Lebanon and its holding control over the security to make his accusation, without any concrete evidence that links it to the crime, and, still, ventured the Lebanese people's security and future for five years, then why doesn't he accept what the Syrians are saying today about his Party? It is actually much less than what he said about them and did to them. This is in spite of their having the data - whether the previously mentioned or the data that the Syrian television has shown some of - that is enough to charge a rational accusation, which is absolutely unlike the accusation Hariri used in his war that he led to overthrow the Syrian regime.

We return to the introduction and say it is true that any accusation must be based on viable evidence and go through a judiciary path; yet, accomplishing the principle of "an eye for an eye," Hariri now has two things to do: asking his minister of justice and his judges to put to execution the Syrian arrest warrants issued in absentia on behalf of those accused of fabricating the false witnesses; as for the second thing, it is getting ready for five years during which Syria has the right to accuse him and his Party, using the same method he used. In such manner, his objection becomes accepted; this is in case there's no absolute proof that the data denying his Party's involvement resembles the denial of their involvement with the false witnesses.

Future Party Wants Syrian Ambassador to Be Summoned!

Local Editor
Believe it or not, the Future party in Lebanon wants the Syrian ambassador to Lebanon to be summoned…

After the party’s involvement* in the latest developments in Russia (syria) was uncovered, the party chose to “defend” itself by “attacking” the other party, and Syria of course.

Thus, the party didn’t hesitate to call on caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Shami to summon Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali, after the latter urged Lebanese authorities to take legal action against a Future Movement MP who was believed to be involved in Syria’s unrest.

“The bloc demands the foreign minister summon the Syrian ambassador to clarify his statements on this issue and asks Speaker Nabih Berri to call on Parliament to discuss the issue,” said a statement released by the Future Movement parliamentary bloc, following their weekly meeting.

However, Shami responded shortly after the release of the Future Movement statement, saying that he did not have the right to summon the Syrian ambassador without the approval of the government. He explained that such a decision requires a cabinet session. "Thus, Minister al-Shami urges the prime minister to call for an extraordinary government session to discuss this issue and take the appropriate stance," said a statement issued by Shami’s press office.

The Syrian diplomat urged the Lebanese judiciary to take action against Future Movement lawmaker Jamal Jarrah, one day after Syrian state-run television aired the “confessions” of a three-member terrorist cell saying they had received funds and weapons from Jarrah to fuel a wave of protests against the ruling Baath regime.

The Future parliamentary bloc said the allegations were an organized campaign to distract the movement from addressing national issues. “The Future Movement reiterates its rejection of intervening in Syrian affairs and announces clearly that the movement and its parliamentary bloc did not and will not intervene,” the statement said. “This organized media and political campaign against the Future Movement, and particularly false accusations against MP Jamal Jarrah, are condemned,” it added.

Hezbollah Urges Legal Action against Future Party

Local Editor

Hezbollah renewed on Monday calls for the judiciary to take action after testimonies broadcast by the Syrian Television showed the Future was involved in the conspiracy against Syria.

“The Lebanese judiciary should act immediately to reveal the size of the Future Party’s involvement in the conspiracy against Syria, its stability and national unity,” deputy head of Hezbollah Executive Council Sheikh Nabil Qaouq said.

“Since 2005, the movement has not shied away from targeting Syria the same way it targeted the Resistance,” Sheikh Qaoud pointed out. “In fact its campaign against Syria is aimed at weakening the Resistance,” he stressed.

According to the Hezbollah official, the Future party’s involvement in the conspiracy against Syria is the greatest national sin “as it has gotten embroiled in a project that is greater than it and this will definitely affect Lebanon's national interest.”

Wikileaks: Hariri 'suggested the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood with Abdel Halim Khaddam, ... they even support peace with Israel'

They even support peace with Israel'

(Original cable)
S E C R E T BEIRUT 002735
SUBJECT: LEBANON: SAAD HARIRI CALLS FOR SYRIAN REGIME
CHANGE; MAYBE IRAN TOO
REF: JEDDAH 561
1. (C/NF) In a wide ranging discussion at his Qureitem home on August 22, an effusive and provocative Saad Hariri met with senior Senate Foreign Relations staffer Puneet Talwar and poloff (notetaker).... Saad gave an oft-repeated laundry list of needs - trucks, cars, M-16s, fuel, ammunition, helicopters. How, Saad asked, can the army be expected to present an obstacle to Hizballah when it only has four hours worth of ammunition? "It's ridiculous!"... Surprisingly, Hariri described the head of the LAF's G2 intelligence bureau George Khoury (generally
described as pro-Syrian by other March 14 leaders like Walid Jumblatt) as "a good guy."...(C/NF) Saad claims (perhaps overconfidently) that

since it was seriously depleted during the conflict.

Admitting that there is little to be done now to combat Hizballah's trumpeting of "victory" over the Israelis, since very survival means victory for Hizballah, Saad believe that once the triumphant afterglow has worn off, people will see only the destruction wrought by Hizballah's unilateral action against Israel. "In a week, two weeks," predicted Saad, "when it starts raining, and the economy's crumbling. Then people will be annoyed with Hizballah."....

Hizballah's missile stockpile is no longer such a deterrent
8. (C/NF) Saad said he has completely shut down communication with Hizballah. "I want them to change their attitude and give up their weapons. Else they will have a problem with me." When Talwar asked if Saad intends to return to the negotiating table with Hizballah, Saad dismissed the idea and quipped, "What? The national dialogue?

You want me to sit in the same room with Hassan Nasrallah while the Israelis know exactly where to find him?!"

(courage like never seen before!)

10. (S/NF) Looking to the East, Saad said that the regimes in Syria and Iran are the biggest obstacles to peace in the region. The USG has tried for years to bring about a "change in regime behavior" in Syria, to no avail. Saad argued that nothing is really being done about Syria. Saad urged that now is a golden opportunity for the international community to "weaken" Bashar. The USG needs a clear, new policy to isolate Syria. "My belief is, if you don't isolate Syria, if you don't put a blockade, they will never change." By subduing Syria, you remove Iran's main bridge for playing the troublemaker in Lebanon and Palestine. "If you weaken Syria," Saad suggested, "then Iran has to work alone." The Saudis and other Arab states have all had enough of young Bashar, according to Saad, and no longer want to try a conciliatory approach to the Syrian regime. After Bashar's recent speech threatening civil war in Lebanon, they are no longer interested in "talking" with Damascus. Saad said he had hear this directly from the Saudis, and that Prince Bandar is delivering this message in Washington now (Comment. It is also interesting that Saudi Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal made similar comments, but about Iran specifically, during an 8/22 meeting with Ambassador Oberwetter, as reported in reftel.
End Note).
"The Saudis and Egyptians have turned. Look into that." When Talwar asked what the United States could do to increase the pressure on Syria, Saad suggested forging ahead on the special tribunal with international character on the Hariri assassination and organizing international sanctions on Syria.12. (S/NF) Getting a little more animated as the conversation continued, Saad argued that the Syrian regime  lived on conflict. It will only stop if we get rid of the regime."

13. (S/NF) If the regime were to fall in Syria, who would be there to fill in the vacuum?..., Saad suggested that the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, in partnership with ex-regime figures like Abdel Halim Khaddam and Hikmet Shehabi ("though he's still close to the regime"), could step into the void. Saad claimed that the Syrian Brotherhood is similar in character to Turkey's moderate Islamists. "They would accept a Christian or a woman as President. They accept civil government. It's like Turkey in Syria.
needs to be gotten rid of entirely. "This regime has always
They even support peace with Israel." Saying that he maintains close contact with Khaddam (in Paris) and Syrian Muslim Brotherhood leader-in-exile Ali Bayanuni (in London), Saad urged us to "talk to Bayanuni. See what he's like. You will see wonders.".....

Wikileaks: Hariri to Talwar: "A partnership between the 'Brotherhood & Khaddam' ... They support peace with Israel"

Via FLC

(Original cable/tomorrow)

On 24 August 2006 (06BEIRUT2735),  Saad Hariri, met senior staff member of the Committee on Foreign Relations in the U.S. Senate, Puneet Talwar, ... Through most of the meeting, Hariri  talked about regional affairs, especially in Syria. In his view, the Syrian and Iranian regimes are  major obstacles to peace in the region. He said that the U.S. government tried hard «to change the behavior of these regimes» but to no avail.... According to Hariri circumstances were  «propitious for the international community to weaken Bashar». Hariri believed that the U.S. Government «needed a new & clearer policy towards isolating Syria»,  and added that « if  you did not isolate & blockade Syria, they will not be changed... and by coercing Syria you eliminate the Iranian bridge to troublemaking in Lebanon & Palestine»..... " The Saudis and other Arabs, are fed up with young Bashar, and are no longer prone to use a conciliatory approach with the Syrian regime. After Bashar's last speech, in which he threatened civil war in Lebanon, they are no longer interested in talking to Damascus». Saad said that «he heard this directly from the Saudis, and Prince Bandar was actually conveying this message to Washington».

Hariri was asked as to who can fill the vacuum in the event of regime change in Damascus, he replied by suggesting a «partnership between the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, and some of the old regime personalities such as Abdul Halim Khaddam and Hikmat Shihabi («although the latter is still close to the regime») to fill the void». Hariri went on to vouch that the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood movement in Syria «similar in its moderation to the Islamists in Turkey. who would could accept a Christian or a woman as president and that they support peace with Israel». Hariri said he maintains strong links with  Khaddam and the exiled Syrian Muslim Brotherhood's leader Ali al Bayanouni, pressing the Americans to talk «with Bayanouni & see for yourselves ... you will be pleasantly surprised»..."

Syria Awaits Action after Future Party MP ‘Implicated’

Local Editor

Syria's ambassador to Beirut Ali Abdul Karim Ali urged Lebanese authorities on Thursday to take legal action following allegations a deputy was funding and arming protesters in Syria. He "requested Lebanon's authorities and judiciary take action ... in order to preserve brotherly ties between the two countries".

In an interview with Al-Intiqad website, Ali said that the confessions made by the terrorist cell and broadcast by Syrian state TV, in which it appeared that Future party MP Jamal Jarrah was involved, require that Lebanon’s authorities take action to preserve the special ties between Lebanon and Syria.

The Syrian ambassador said there was no need for new contacts between Syrian authorities and Lebanese justice and said that what was broadcast is enough for the Lebanese sides to automatically take action and assume responsibility.

He also said that the mentioned confessions were only the beginning and therefore, were not everything. “The interventions in the Syrian affairs in Lebanon were obvious,” he said. “The responsibility of the Lebanese justice is stipulated by the accords and agreements signed by the two countries,” he added. “Concerned Lebanese authorities must take the initiative and act.”

He concluded that the meddling in Syrian affairs by some Lebanese sides is very dangerous and contradicts with the Taef agreement and the brotherhood ties between Lebanon and Syria.

Ali's comments came a day after Syrian state-run television aired "testimonies" of three people saying they had received funds and weapons from the Lebanese lawmaker to fuel a wave of protests against the ruling Baath regime.

Anas al-Kanj, who presented himself as the head of the "armed terrorist group," said on camera that he received money and arms from MP Jamal al-Jarrah through an intermediary, Ahmed al-Uda.

Uda also appeared in a pre-recorded segment, identifying himself as a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is banned in Syria.

Ali confirmed to AFP that agreements signed between Lebanon and Syria dictated that the judiciary should automatically take action in the case. However, he stopped short of openly accusing Jarrah of inciting dissent in Syria.

Jarrah, a member of Caretaker Prime Minsiter Saad Hariri's Future party, has denied the allegations. "We have neither the desire nor the capacity or means to interfere in Syrian affairs. I neither know Ahmed al-Uda nor have any ties to him," he said.

Syrian ambassador in Beirut: "The confessions broadcast, are just a beginning..."

Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali told Alintiqad website on Thursday that the confessions of Syrian infiltrators are enough for the Lebanese judiciary to take the lead and act on its won... "The confessions broadcast, are just a beginning," he concluded.

WikiLeaks: Hariri Backed Sleiman to ‘Embarrass’ Hezbollah!

The road to presidency was the name of the new series of WikiLeaks cables, published on Wednesday by Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar, concerning the period prior to the election on Michel Sleiman as consensus President.

The published cables showed that the head of the Future party in Lebanon Saad Hariri backed Michel Sleiman for presidency to “embarrass” Hezbollah and “harm” the head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun.

They confirmed that the “battle” against Hezbollah was the essence of all challenges in the country in the eyes of Hariri’s bloc…

HARIRI SEEKS TO EMBARRASS HEZBOLLAH
According to a November 4, 2007, WikiLeaks cable, the head of the Future party Saad Hariri believed that Michel Sleiman's election as president would "embarrass" Hezbollah and harm Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun.

The mentioned cable spoke of a meeting between Hariri and then US Ambassador to Lebanon Jeffery Feltman during which the Future party leader informed Washington that the March 14 camp had not reached an agreement over a presidential candidate, less than a month before then President Emile Lahoud's term was scheduled to end.

However, Hariri informed Feltman of a "plan B", which called for the election of then Army Commander Michel Sleiman as president. He justified the choice by saying that Sleiman was not responsible for Hezbollah’s smuggling of arms into Lebanon.

US INITIALLY OPPOSED SLEIMAN’S ELECTION

Meanwhile, an October 16, 2007, WikiLeaks cable showed that the United States initially opposed Michel Sleiman's election as president. It spoke of a meeting between then Army Commander Michel Sleiman and then US Ambassador to Lebanon Jeffrey Feltman during which the former rejected claims that he was a "Syrian agent", voicing fears over what Damascus had in store for Lebanon.

Feltman noted in the cable that Sleiman denied that he aimed to become president and spoke highly of Defense Minister Elias Murr and Mustaqbal movement leader Saad Hariri. He was quoted as saying that "the Sunnis discovered the army thanks to Saad Hariri's support."

Sleiman also stressed the need for supporting cooperation between Hariri and the army in order to prevent the northern region of Akkar from falling victim to Islamist extremists "who are being controlled by Damascus." He added that he worked hard to maintain the Lebanese army's unity, noting that it was not an easy task.

In another meeting with Feltman, Sleiman claimed that Hezbollah supported his candidacy to the presidency in order eliminate his chance of getting elected. He explained that the party wanted to maintain the status quo in Lebanon and it did not want an agreement to be reached on its weapons. He went on to say that he wanted to establish good ties with Syria, but not at the expense of maintaining the party's arms indefinitely.

GEAGEA BACKED LAHOUD, HARB, RIZK

Another WikiLeaks cable, dated November 8, 2007, revealed that Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea backed Nassib Lahoud, Butros Harb and Charles Rizk "as a last resort" for the presidency.

The cable said that Geagea rejected a French initiative asking former Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir to propose a list of five possible candidates, fearing that such a move would bring a "weak president who would yield to pressure from Hezbollah and Syria."

The LF chief told Feltman that the March 14 coalition would elect a president in the parliament with majority vote of half-plus-one. However, according to the cable, Geagea warned that such a move by the former parliamentary majority would lead to a clash with Hezbollah which would then control most parts of the country.

HARIRI TO SAUDI: YES SIR!

Meanwhile, a WikiLeaks cable, dated November 3, 2007, quoted then Saudi ambassador to Lebanon Abdul Aziz Khoja as describing Hezbollah as "the devil."

The ambassador stressed that Hezbollah and Syria reject the holding of presidential elections. According to the cable, Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun had approved the postponement of the elections to improve his chances of getting elected.

Khoja also predicted that Nassib Lahoud would be elected president and Najib Miqati would be named prime minister. King Abdullah has advised Hariri to wait until after the parliamentary elections to be named prime minister, Khoja reportedly said. The leaked cable said that "Yes Sir" is Hariri's only reply to any Saudi proposal.

Sabotage Cell Involved in Syria Unrest, Jarrah Main Financer

Batoul Wehbe
Syrian state television has broadcast footage of three young men in a terrorist cell confessing to receiving funds and weapons from Future bloc MP Jamal Jarrah in order to carry out acts of sabotage in Syria.

The three young men, ‘Anas Kanj’, ‘Mohammed Badr Al-Kalam’ and ‘Mohammed El Sokhna’, confessed that they ignited protests in the Umayyad Mosque against the regime and carried out sabotage acts, like attacking a police station in Sbeineh.

Anas Kanj said that he received money and arms from an intermediary named Ahmed Awdeh, a member of Muslim Brotherhood Group, who connected him with Jarrah.

“Ahmed told me that Jarrah is generous and will support my family with money, and that he will give us sophisticated weapons, transported from Lebanon through bribery, and we’ll be trained by other cells we do not know. He promised me to meet Jarrah but could not because of his busyness,” Anas said.
“Ahmed also promised to introduce me to Fida’a Sayyed, Muslim Brotherhood Security General Chief in Syria, and ordered me to shoot at the protesters and film it in order to post the scenes on the ‘Syrian Revolution Website’, so that it draws international attention on the need to get rid of the Syrian regime because it is an ‘opressive regime’,” he added.

Jarrah denied on Wednesday the accusations against him saying: “We have neither the ability nor the intent to interfere in Syrian domestic affairs.”

“If Syria has a case to discuss, it can address the government and the judiciary through the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

'Armed gangs' blocked medical access ...

(AFP) - DAMASCUS — Armed gangs were responsible for preventing injured security forces victims of pro-reform protests receiving medical treatment, Syrian authorities said on Wednesday."Certain media have compiled baseless accusations saying the Syrian authorities prevented the injured from going to hospital for treatment," an Interior Ministry statement said.

"It was armed men who prevented ambulances carrying 34 wounded policemen to hospital in Daraa on April 8," the statement continued, referring to the southern flashpoint which has been the epicentre of anti-regime demonstration. The statement echoed a previous ministry communique on Sunday in which it said: "Armed gangs blocked the road in Banias (in the northwest) to prevent ambulances getting to military wounded and taking them to hospital.".."

"Saad Hariri is a 'Yes Sir' man!"

Wikileaks:

Beirut1724/ November 3, 2007
Former Saudi Ambassador (and actual Minister) Abdul Aziz Khoja to J Feltman: 'Very worried' & convinced that Assef Shawkat conspires to kill Hariri & Siniora. Khoja goes on to describe Hezbollah as 'the devil' and hopes to reinstate the 'N-N' formula that calls for the election of Nassib Lahoud as President & Najib Miqati as 'transitional Prime Minster'... Khoja goes on to say that 'King Abdallah advised Hariri to wait his turn until after the paliemantary elections', and that Hariri had no choice but to say 'Yes Sir' ... Finally, Khoja told Feltman that Hariri asked him to mediate with the King to perhaps change his mind.
