I consider myself a passionate supporter of progressive and liberal causes. It is also no secret that I am gay and will confront anyone who tries to deprive me of my rights; I will be even indignant and intolerant. But let us not confuse the issue here; that is being passionate because if someone comes along and shows me data, evidence, charts, proof or otherwise a reasonable explanation I am willing to listen.
On the other hand; those on the far right and those Fundamentalist Evangelicals are so closed minded that even if you hit them across the face with a two by four with evidence, facts and reason they will still reject it and embrace their ignorance and superstition. That in my book is being fanatical. When reason, logic, scientific proof, charts, evidence fail to convince someone that they are wrong that to me is fanaticism.
How can anyone for example, in this day and age still believe in Creationism when we have at our disposal and in plain view that the world is older than 6,000 years. The same holds true for the Republican-Teahadist ideology: “Government is the problem”, “Government is too big”, “Trickle Down Economics” and in general acting as the surrogates for the very rich and the corporations. But when you confront them with evidence that their ideology is flawed; when you show them facts and charts they still cling on to those askew ideas.Or when you tell Mormons their religion is fabricated and Joseph Smith was a con artist, a drunk and a misfit they will not listen.
What is detrimental to our society and the well-being of the American people is that these groups, both the Fundamentalist Evangelicals and the Teahadist-Republicans are not just hurting massive groups of people but they are destroying the nation in the process. That means a destruction of that very Constitution they so often claim to defend and love; that includes the annulment of democratic processes and the blatant disregard for the commonwealth.
So, I ask you: Are you a passionate person with an open mind or a fanatic with a closed one?

Your obsession with “Revelations” is not only absurd but also very destructive. What you are doing to your followers is to scare the shit out of them so that they become your followers, your slaves. But make no mistake about it…the whole crap about “REVELATIONS” is a fictional doomsday scenario that imagines a very mean, wrathful God destroying what he supposedly created.
I don’t know about you but I can’t imagine such a God nor can I imagine buying what these people are selling. Unequivocally these Evangelical-Fundamentalists actually want the end of times to come; Armageddon, the whole ball of wax. They actually rejoice when they hear of a catastrophe or some crisis…because in their world that is an indication of the proximity to Armageddon.
Please don’t tell me that it is not the case because I have met Evangelicals, tons of them and each and everyone had that doomsday crap in common. I even watched firsthand the reaction of a neighbor of mine who happened to be visiting my mother the moment the plane hit the second tower on 9/11. I can tell you that her demeanor was jubilant; her smile was eerie and there was a sense of gloating and she immediately commented: “that is an indication that the end of times has begun”
I don’t know about you but I think that a religion like that is pretty fucked up. I mean, to actually rejoice when thousands of people are killed…with the culmination of the entire human race being wiped out. Do these people realize that their validation carries such a drastic and evil purpose? They are misguided into believing that they alone will survive it…they will be looked upon by that wrathful God with kindness and will rescue them just because they have these weird and far out ideas?
It is a very sorry day when people live their whole lives just looking forward to their demise and the obliteration of the human race. That in my book is totally, perversely FUCKED UP. And for those who are the spokespersons and are benefiting from these scare tactics…SHAME ON YOU…you might scare people into buying some gold…but that gold will be totally worthless when there is nobody to buy it.
You hear it every day, frequently and they are very alarming ads. “Buy gold now, protect your wealth, it is an investment that will keep your future safe” and so on; they tell you to be scared. It is almost always followed by some motivation of urgency, the world is coming to an end and you will be holding gold, it will save you from ruin and despair…etc.It will even help you get through THE RAPTURE.
I couldn’t agree with this at all because gold is as high as you could possibly buy it now. To buy something when it is high is insane. You are constantly told to buy low and sell high, so why should gold be any different?
But that is not the only intricacy of this transaction. What really happens is that you are overwhelmed by all kinds of service charges and costs that are not apparent when you do decide to turn some of your cash into gold. Good luck if you try to convert some of your investments into gold; you are in for the ride of your life. It has been pointed out by many including Rep. Anthony Weiner of NY (D) that in order to make the purchase of gold worthwhile would be if the price went up 200% and that is a practical impossibility.
If you don’t believe me how inflated the price of buying gold is then try to sell some on your own. What you can do is gather all your old rings, chains, damaged jewelry and any gold you have sitting around and send it to one of these companies that buy this stuff. Then divide the money you got by the weight and compare it to the price you pay when you buy as compared to when you sell.

When I was little, my mother had to work, unusual for a Cuban woman of the day but I was left to the care of this very nice woman who said I was “her Godson”. In any case, having that privilege was awesome for me because she was kind and loving. She lived with her parents and was unmarried…clearly at her age she was a spinster. The parents, both illiterate were colorful characters in my hometown.
One of the curious thing that I observed was the pious behavior and religiosity that the mother displayed. She kept a calendar and would look up every day at the saints listed for that one day and she would announce: “Today is St. Gervasio’s day…we have to go to his house and wish him a happy Saint’s day.” It matter not that the bloke wasn’t born on that particular day but what mattered to her is that he had the Saint’s name.
There was one very curious thing this woman believed in: she thought that she had supernatural powers…the power to heal, to give a stomach massage and to “pasar la mano” of any sick person and she would miraculously make that person healthy again.
But I think that what really took the grand prize was that she believed she could actually dissolve a waterspout or a forming tornado. This was significant because my hometown was almost destroyed in its entirety in a December 26, 1940 tornado. What this woman did was to take a knife, point it at the forming menacing cloud and utter some nonsense accompanied by a prayer. Sure the waterspout dissolved and everyone was at awe…but it was going to dissolve anyhow…at least that is what I thought and to me she didn’t really do anything…and in reality, she didn’t…it was her own conviction that she could, she actually thought she could dissolve the tornado.
Look, I don’t care really if you believe in little green unicorns from Tasmania; nor if you opt to worship them while hanging upside down from a chandelier. What troubles me is the insistence of some of these believers of nonsense and superstition that I too have to believe or I am a heretic or worse.
The most important thing for those “believers” or those who claim to have “faith” is that their convictions may be very real and very emotional for them but they can’t go around trying to push it on other people. Some of us are even resentful when one of these religious fanatics comes and knocks at my front door looking for validation and to convert me.
The way I see it; if your religion is so great, you wouldn’t need to go around knocking on doors looking for converts…people would knock down your door in order to join you. So, please spare me the absurdity of your rationalizations, refrain from trying to tell me that I am going to hell and that sort of thing if I don’t believe the same way you do.
You have your Constitutional right to have faith and believe in anything you deem worthy…but what I will absolutely not tolerate is for you to get together with other people of the same mindset as yours and make laws that deprive me of my rights or render me a second class citizen. You are not any better or any worse than I am and the sooner you learn that the better. You don’t have a special relationship with God and if you did God hasn’t found out about it.
The Creator doesn’t look kindly upon people who spew hatred and want to discriminate against others. Your sin is far more serious than you think. What makes you even consider that the Creator would look upon you favorably just because you insert a penis in a vagina and make life miserable, humiliate and force a group of people to second class citizens? That just doesn’t cut it in the eyes of the Creator.
You are hereby put on notice: if there is a hell you are going there faster than gays would be.

I had written a post May 17, 2010 named “WHY DON’T WE TURN THE TABLES AROUND?” Pointing out how it felt to be discriminated on the basis of your sexual orientation and how religions will deny you the rights everyone else enjoys thus making gays second class citizens
That was way back in May and today I get a comment from Rodney and this is what he had to say:

First of all, the concept of heaven and hell is a little too difficult for me to even contemplate let alone accept. I do believe that it is something religions fabricated in order to make their followers be submissive and obedient, to behave well and to be able to be governed.
You are basically telling me that my love for someone is not as worthy as yours
Second, I don’t think the Bible or any of the Scriptures are HOLLY; in other words, they are not the word of God or the Creator whatever you want to call it. The Scriptures were written by men and they were not very enlightened in those days nor was the idea of procreation not to be promoted since the world population was very small in those days and one lousy plague could have wiped out the whole human race.
The Scriptures were written from tales and historical accounts that were told from father to son before there was written language. As one might expect the next narrator would attach his own interpretations and embellish it some more. By the time it made it to the written Scriptures it was nothing like what the elders had in mind to pass along as a form of wisdom and a guide to fairness and civilized behavior.
Enter the Church and they picked and threw out a lot of it in more recent times. The early Church for example did perform SAME SEX MARRIAGES although nobody talks about it and they will refute it and ask you to prove it. I couldn’t prove it any more than these religious fanatics could prove the existence of heaven or hell…because these are based on FAITH and it has nothing to do with either historical, scientific or common sense…FAITH is a feeling, a belief albeit it might be erroneous, it is held dear as one of the convictions most passionately defended.
So, Rodney, your faith means nothing to me, nor do your Romans 1 and I am not going to tolerate for you to get a secular government to put their seal of approval on your desire to discriminate and make laws that take away my rights. Furthermore, HELL means even less for me since I am not really looking forward to going to some place after my demise where I can find the likes of Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and yes, YOU.
If you need the threat of hell to behave well, if you only act in a civilized and reasonable manner because you want to go to HEAVEN then basically you are not really a good person. You should be able to be good because it is in your nature and because you want to be not because of fear or because somebody who wants your tithing tells you that is the way it is.
I suspect Rodney you are a Mormon because this posting was in between some of the “DEBUNKING MORMONISM” posts I made back in May 2010. If that is the case, I suggest that your church will eventually realize that gays have a lot of income and by some miraculous “vision” one of your church elders will have a revelation that gays are to be accepted just the way you did in the 70’s with blacks.
Now, honestly, do you think that people who hold those views would even be qualified to lead the most powerful nation in the world? I seriously question anybody’s intellect if they actually believe that crap.

If you’re in the LGBT community, and you pay attention to why we’re still second class citizens, you undoubtedly have been referred to the Bible, and more specifically the translation of LEVITICUS 18:22 – Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Well, since it’s Sunday, I thought we’d all have a little Sunday School and find out what else the Bible says so we know who else to take away life, liberty, rights and freedoms from.
According to the good book (specifically the King James version) there’s plenty of things that qualify. I’ve summarized these, but trust me, it’s in there:
DEUTERONOMY 22:13-21 – If a man takes a bride who is discovered not to be a virgin, the woman is supposed to stoned to death. (I wonder if Sarah Palin is pre-planning stone baskets instead of rice for Bristol’s wedding?)
DEUTERONOMY 22:22 – If a married person has sex with someone else’s husband or wife (has an extra-marital affair), then both parties are suppose to be put to death.
MARK 10:1-12 – You can’t get a divorce, but if you do, and you marry again, then that’s adultery, so that would mean all parties, the original husband and wife, along with the second marriage parties are to be put to death. (Maybe Liz Taylor is proof that a cat has nine lives?)
LEVITICUS 18:19 – If a woman’s on her period, you’re both gonna be in big trouble if you have sex.
MARK 12:18-27 – If a man dies before he has kids, his widow has to have sex with all his brothers until she has a child, but if she makes her way through all the brothers without having one, then she is to be put to death.
DEUTERONOMY 25:11-12 – If a man gets into a fight with another man and his wife tries to help out by grabbing the other guy by the balls, then her hand is suppose to be cut off and she’s not to be given any pity.
LEVITICUS 19:27 – A man is not allowed to cut his hair, shave or trim his beard.
LEVITICUS 19:16 – If you gossip or tell others what your neighbors been up to, then you’re going to hell.
LEVITICUS 11:10 – Red Lobster is the gateway to hell. You can’t eat shellfish!
LEVITCUS 11:7 – Pork is NOT the other white meat. You eat pig, you’re an abomination!
LEVITICUS 19:19 – You can’t wear poly/cotton blends and you can let an Angus cow mingle with the likes of a Guernsey.
LEVITICUS 15:19-20 – When a woman is on her period, she’s suppose to be locked up for seven days, and if you touch her, then you’re unclean and anything she lays or sits on while she’s on her period is unclean, and has to go!
EPHESIANS 5:4 – You can’t cuss, say anything stupid or joke around.
EXODUS 20:8 – Depending on which day you think is the Sabbath (Saturday or Sunday) You’re not suppose to do anything all day long…Can I sign up for that one?
There’s a lot more, but I thought this should sum it up nicely. If we’re going to make the U.S. the great Christian nation the religious right wants us to be, I think we’re all in a great deal of trouble! Please contact your lawmaker today to make sure we start adhering to these laws of the Bible!

Our community is the target of many hateful laws and policies, but one law has come to symbolize the anti-gay cause at its most crass, ruthless and dishonest: Proposition 8. That showdown in California in 2008 pitted a right-wing lie machine against ordinary couples who just wanted to stay married. The lies won out that day. In fact, months later polls would show that many voters still believed them. Proposition 8 was built on lies.
This week, United States District Judge Vaughn Walker issued a ruling concluding that California has no legitimate basis for denying marriage to same-sex couples. The court concluded that Proposition 8 is unconstitutional. This ruling followed a trial during which every false justification for Prop 8 came under scrutiny. The opinion ticks through each false premise-same-sex couples are not good parents; marriage equality threatens opposite-sex couples-and rejects them all. In the end, all that is left is truth: "plaintiffs ask California to recognize their relationships for what they are: marriages." We are all grateful to the brave couples, their acclaimed counsel and the American Foundation for Equal Rights for standing up for equality.
Of course, our opponents at the National Organization for Marriage were screaming injustice before the ink on the decision had dried. The group, which is already on a 20-city tour to argue against our equal rights and to prove that they are persecuted (really), has a new message: this court has threatened the voting rights of every American. That’s right-if the gays can get married, then you are disenfranchised. It makes sense if your idea of "right to vote" is "right to discriminate." Good luck with that, NOM.
Our opponents do have one thing right: our right to vote is important. Legislators enact the laws that protect us or those that restrict our rights. Some have the power to set public workplace policies and others are responsible for appointing and confirming judges. That’s why HRC works in state and federal elections. It is also why we spoke out again this week against Target and Best Buy-100% CEI companies-who donated an astonishing $250,000 to a political committee that supports a rabidly anti-equality candidate for Minnesota governor. Over 100,000 of you responded to our call to action, asking the companies to make it right. Target's CEO has issued an apology, but has not yet indicated how the company will rectify the situation or prevent future donations to anti-LGBT candidates.
When anti-LGBT lawmakers take office and our opponents get laws like Proposition 8 on the books, the federal courts can bring justice and prevent the majority from trampling minority rights. HRC has long been involved in promoting a fair-minded judiciary. Most recently, we endorsed Solicitor General Elena Kagan's nomination to be the 112th justice of the United States Supreme Court. On Thursday, the Senate confirmed her by a vote of 63-37. In the judicial nominations process, you always hear the refrain "elections have consequences." This thoughtful proponent of equal rights is a welcome consequence indeed.
Since I am devoid of that fear that most people have of being blasphemous and the price for that as prescribed by the religious fanatics is death and eventually burning in hell; I have no deterrent in telling it like it is.
You see, I have repeatedly written blogs expressing my displeasure with religion, religious dogma, religious fanaticism and in particular the Bible. I have said that it is written by men and it does not have the “sacred” or “holy” characteristics these people attach to it. I see it as a compilation of fairy tales, fables and stories all meant to subdue mankind into the kind of sheepish submission religion needs to survive and thrive.
Since I don’t believe in hell, it also helps me see things more clearly. I think that people should act in good faith and do good deeds because it is in their nature to do so, not because they fear retribution. If you have faith and you only do good deeds because you are afraid of going to hell, then I don’t think you are a good person, it is your proclivity to do ill and do harm, only religion is stopping you therefore you do deserve to go to hell…if such a thing existed.
When I use profanity, when I put down some religious beliefs, when I criticize the behavior of religious leaders and how hypocritical they are, preaching morality and getting involved in sordid sexual affairs, when I point out the corruption and the sexual abuses of the church I am speaking the truth and since I don’t do guilt I am free from that “you are going to hell” promise.
One often hears: “Christians are not perfect…just forgiven” I cringe. You see, that is precisely what is wrong with Christianity. We know we are not perfect…and the idea of forgiveness is ludicrous because you can go ahead and screw up or just screw to your heart’s desire knowing that you will be forgiven.
That is why I say that when some of these people who claim to be Christians begin to pass judgment on others and to get together to pass laws that discriminate and make other people’s life miserable; those are the ones that if I am correct in this, should be going to hell and receive that punishment they prescribe…not those of us who let others be themselves and are only responsible for our own actions.
Some of these fucking Evangelicals and Morons Mormons will have burned to a crisp in the bowels of hell long before I have even made my reservations for my trip there. These hypocrites have no idea that they are causing harm and misery, they don’t know the hurtful and hateful results of their misguided interpretations of the Scriptures. Yet, even after you point it out to them they pick and choose, they selectively opt to quote one passage of the Scriptures and ignore all the others.
Do you really think that if you light a candle or if you dress in white, or if you get on your knees or prostrate yourself on the floor to “submit and offer” your alligeance and your devotion that doing that is going to secure you a place in heaven? By the same token do you think that by saying: “I accept Jesus, or Jesus is in my heart” that it is going to make you any safer? Dream on…if you keep fucking people over, if you get together with others to deprive some of their rights and you cause misery and suffering, I don’t care how many candles you light or how much you repeat that you have “Jesus in your life”…you are first in the beeline to hell.

Do you really think that by calling yourselves “bishops” or “reverend”; putting on some silly robes or some religious drag that you are going to impress me? To impress me enough to even think that somehow you are “holier than thou” and a representative of an imaginary god?
The Bible or the Koran can’t be taken literally…you have to put it all into context and you have to not allow others to interpret it for you…nor should you take the lazy road and let others explain it to you and adopt their interpretations. In any case, the Bible is at best an account of the history of people who lived five or six thousand years ago and in most cases has very little significance to our lives today. It is not even an accurate historical document. And because I don’t believe in its “holly” nature, it would be meaningless for me to swear on one. I also don’t ever say: “so help me God” when I am being sworn in…instead I say: “so help me, me” because ultimately I am the one who is responsible for my own actions and I have no expectations of rewards or punishment…when I do something wrong it is going to be in my conscience, not to be unburdened later by some fucking priest.
I know that my way of thinking and my whole outlook on religion just pisses them off. They can’t stand it to think that their fear mongering has no effect on me. They even leave totally frustrated from my door; like the morning that the two Morons Mormons came: “Good morning brother, we come to bring you the good news” To which I replied: “What?, don’t tell me the Inquisition is over”
Another time there was this real good looking youngster at the mall and he comes up to me, very assertively and said: “Do you know Jesus?” My response was, first a burst of laughter, then I said: “Yes, I know Jesus, he is this real hot stud who lives in Hialeah and has a ten inch cock…I have his phone number…do you want it? You might enjoy sucking his cock”. Those two interchanges totally threw their game. They left in a huff, saying they would pray for me…of course what they meant was that they wished I would burn in their imaginary, fabricated hell.
On the other hand; those on the far right and those Fundamentalist Evangelicals are so closed minded that even if you hit them across the face with a two by four with evidence, facts and reason they will still reject it and embrace their ignorance and superstition. That in my book is being fanatical. When reason, logic, scientific proof, charts, evidence fail to convince someone that they are wrong that to me is fanaticism. 
What is detrimental to our society and the well-being of the American people is that these groups, both the Fundamentalist Evangelicals and the Teahadist-Republicans are not just hurting massive groups of people but they are destroying the nation in the process. That means a destruction of that very Constitution they so often claim to defend and love; that includes the annulment of democratic processes and the blatant disregard for the commonwealth.
