THEY ARE ASKING FOR BIRTH CERTIFICATES, PROOF OF RESIDENCY, SOCIAL SECURITY CARD AND A WHOLE SHITLOAD OF DOCUMENTS TO RENEW OR GET A DRIVER’S LICENSE.
Starting Jan. 1, all new licenses and in-person renewals will require two proofs of residence, proof of your Social Security number plus a primary form of identification. An existing license or identification card will not qualify.
Examples of primary identification:
• Certified U.S. birth certificate. It must be government-issued; hospital-issued documents will not work. Obtaining a Florida birth certificate costs $9 and can take 10 business days. Other states also charge fees.
• Valid U.S. passport
• Certificate of citizenship
• Certificate of naturalization
Examples of Social Security number:
• Social Security card
• W-2 federal tax form
• some legal residents, such as international students, may qualify for a license without a Social Security number if they present necessary supplemental documentation.
Examples of residency proof:
• Florida voter registration card
• Mail from federal, state, county or city government agencies
• Utility bills not more than 2 months old

avoid hassles by going to the DHSMV or tax collector's office before this month's end.
The new ID requirements coincide with recent increases in the cost of a license. In September, the price of a new license rose from $27 to $48, renewals rose from $20 to $48 and replacements increased from $10 to $25. (There is no fee for renewing online or in person at the state Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.)
The amount of time and effort spent getting a driver’s license in Florida is ridiculous…I don’t know why the Republican Tea Baggers are proposing a law more strict than the one in Arizona…the D.O.V. is already doing a pretty good job of “show me your papers” and if it doesn’t resemble one of those totalitarian states where they ask you for your grandmother’s garden club card membership I don’t know what.
That in my book is tyranny, it is merely meant to control and intimidate people…it is another way of pandering to the extreme right wing who thinks they are being “invaded” and they are “losing their America”.
But just you wait until a few of those redneck cracker types goes to renew their driver’s license…surely they will be missing a document or two then they are going to be pissed that after waiting for an hour they have to go home and search for more papers. “My birth certificate? But I was born at home…I don’t have one…or a passport…have no reason to have one…I don’t travel and leave this wonderful country of ours…haven’t lost anything abroad”
Yes sir, but these are the papers we require you produce, no papers, no driver’s license.
